Come learn to forge traditional Japanese style tanto blades. The blades will be ground/filed clean, then heat treated with clay to create the Hamon (hardening line) which will then be brought out with hand polishing and etching. This workshop will concentrate on the process, eliminating the stress of trying to complete a specific project. You will make several blades during the week. Basic forging experience is required. Intermediate to Advanced

Mace Vitale is a Journeyman smith in the American Bladesmith Society and a full-time knife maker since 2002. He has been running the Blacksmith program at the Guilford Art Center in CT for the last several years teaching both adults and teens the way of the hammer and anvil.
