Ellen is an artist blacksmith who creates forged fashion combining art, blacksmithing, and fashion. Her interest in fashion was inspired by her fascination with moving metal. After growing up in Wilmington Delaware she continued on to get an MFA in sculpture. She was introduced to forging from the decorative arts side of life instead of the functional and utilitarian option. Her current “wearable series” started as decorative life size stationary pieces inspired by her large scale drawings. This led to her current growing performance runway like series: Forged Fashion. Ellen's metalwork challenges traditional views of how craftsmanship is applied; while posing dynamic and relevant psychological questions. She believes that her delicate and elaborate metal work is complete when viewed on the human body. www.ellendurkan.com
