Learn about plant dye on wool, exploring how to maximize color in a limited palette of colors gathered from nature, while you play with a multi-shaft loom. Achieve a sumptuous array of colors in an ikat influenced dyed set of stripes on a single warp. Explore weave structures on a four or eight harness loom and learn how to read a draft from a collection provided in class and develop your own modifications. You will combine a variety of weave structures and weft colors using your specific threading to weave up a soft, colorful shawl. Intermediate

Wendy Weiss is an artist, natural dyer, and weaver who uses natural dyes that she cultivates and collects locally. She is a recipient of two Nebraska Arts Council Artist Fellowships, as well as a Winterthur Residential Fellowship. Her work is exhibited in solo and group shows in North America, Europe, and Asia. She is senior editor for the Textile Society of America and former board member and professor emerita of textile design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She teaches workshops on creative applications of warp ikat and natural dye. She collaborates with Jay Kreimer on a range of installation projects using diverse materials. www.wendyweiss.org
