Learn how to make mechanical automata that explore the potential of movement and sound in kinetic sculpture. We will use simple materials (wood, hardware and found objects) and basic woodshop skills to make visually interesting, hand-cranked contraptions. This fun, intensive class promotes creative problem solving and collaboration between art and science. Beginner and Beyond

Ben Pranger is sculptor and has shown his kinetic and mixed-media work in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. He has taught sculpture at the NJ Artist/ Teachers Institute, Stockton University, Bloomsburg University, the Art Institute of Chicago, and teaches kinetic sculpture workshops in New Jersey public schools (K-8) through the NJ Artist-in-Education program. He has participated in artist residencies at Kohler Art/ Industry, Fine Arts Work Center of Provincetown and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Program, and has received sculpture grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the New Jersey Council for Art and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. www.benpranger.com
